Pale, spotted fishes particularly characteristic of the shoal waters of the Great Lakes. Troutperch are nocturnal - in deep waters in lakes; migrate to shallow waters to feed at night. Trout-perch eat a variety of small aquatic animals including waterfleas, copepods, sideswimmers, fingernail clams, and midge larvae. Larval trout-perch eat rotifers, waterfleas, and copepods, while large adults occasionally go for a small minnow or darter. Length to 13 cm.
