AJO-1 Project
(11/10/2008)Project Type: SBInet TechnologySummary: AJO-1 is the second of two operational deployments of the SBInet technology solution. AJO-1 will employ a network of fixed towers equipped with radar, sensor, and remotely operated camera equipment, which provide 24-hour, year-round capabilities that will help detect and/or deter illegal entries into the United States.Part of SBInet, this project integrates new and existing border technology as well as traditional infrastructure, and is the next step in the development of a comprehensive border security system along the Southwest border.Solution: AJO-1 technology will be deployed in a slightly different environment than found in TUS-1 and will be used to develop SBInet’s production/deployment processes for future sites. Project components include 6 sensor towers; 6 communication towers; 200 unattended ground sensors, and; 20 miles of access road improvements/construction.Location: Located south of Ajo, Arizona, the AJO-1 project will cover approximately 30 miles of international border. The project area is on the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument and is flanked by the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge on the western boundary, and the Tohono O’odham Nation on the eastern boundary.Partners: The AJO-1 Project is a partnership between CBP and the Boeing Company.Timing: The project is expected to be fielded in calendar year 2010. |
