Brownsville, Texas — Rio Grande Valley, Texas Border Patrol agents assigned to the Fort Brown station detained three thieves, recovered stolen property and possibly prevented a robbery of a local convenience store early Tuesday.

The incident occurred when Border Patrol agents assigned to the Fort Brown Station stopped a suspicious green Mazda Protégé at the intersection of Arkansas and Oklahoma Roads on the east side of Brownsville. As an agent asked the subjects their citizenship, he noticed that all three occupants, one adult male and two juvenile males, were dressed in black clothing and one had thick, black gloves on his hands.

The agent requested and received consent to search the vehicle. The search revealed numerous electronic items including three overhead projectors, a DVD player and several DVD’s, audio equipment, calculators and a CD writer. All of the equipment was labeled as property of the Brownsville Independent School District.

Border Patrol agents requested assistance from the Cameron County Sherriff’s Department who questioned the passengers, all U.S. citizens, and subsequently placed them under arrest. Sheriff’s deputies determined the subjects stole the electronic equipment from Hanna High School and had intentions of robbing a nearby convenience store.

The Brownsville Independent School District Police Department was informed of the incident and took custody of the individuals, vehicle and stolen equipment.

To report suspicious activity, contact the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector toll free at 1-800-863-9382.
