Bishop Field Office

Welcome to the Bishop Field Office

The Bishop Field Office cares for a unique vestige of wild California, emphasizing conservation, education and partnerships. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity and productivity of the 750,000 acres of your BLM public lands we are entrusted to manage. These public lands in Mono and Inyo counties span the length of the eastern Sierra from Topaz Lake to Owens Lake in a region dominated by public agency lands. The Inyo and Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forests, the major federal land administrators in the area, manage over 2 million acres, while the Los Angeles Dept. of Water and Power (DWP) manages 310,000 acres. Private land ownership comprises only about 2% in Inyo County and 6% in Mono County. BLM Bishop emphasizes collaborative, citizen-centered stewardship as well as interagency coordination and cooperation in fulfilling our mission.

Office Information:

Service First Image

To enhance customer service and reduce costs, the BLM, Forest Service, and the National Park Service coordinate land and resource management and public service in the eastern Sierra. The Bishop Field Office is co-located with the Inyo National Forest headquarters and both agencies work together on a wide variety of programs and projects, sharing scarce-skill employees. One-stop shopping for BLM, Forest Service, and National Park Service information and permits is provided at the Public Lands Information Center on Main Street in Bishop and the Interagency Visitor Center in Lone Pine.  BLM Bishop and the Inyo and Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forests provide integrated wildland fire and fuels management, working together across agency jurisdictions on the federal lands in the eastern Sierra.
