CBP Explorers Train for National Conference Competition

(06/10/2008)
Instructor explains proper arrest technique to Explorer.
CBP explorers across the country including Puerto Rico, Hawaii and the Virgin Islands are training to compete at the 2008 National Law Enforcement Explorer Conference being held in Ft. Collins, Colo., from July 21 to July 25.

The competition is intense as over 3,000 explorers from different law enforcement agencies show off their skills in various tactical situations. These competitions include: crime scene search, hostage negotiation, traffic stop, traffic accident investigation, bomb scene search, search and arrest techniques, domestic crisis intervention plus other team and individual events. Trophies are presented to the top five posts in each competition.

Commissioner Basham is a strong supporter of the Law Enforcement Explorer Program and is scheduled to be at the National Conference to encourage the CBP explorers. The Office of Field Operations will have nine posts in attendance with a total of 134 explorers. The Office of Border Patrol will have five posts attending totaling 39 explorers.
Explorers train for the traffic stop competition.

Customs and Border Protection will have the most posts and the largest number of explorers participating at this year's conference. Post advisors have spent many hours training the explorers in preparation for competition. Go CBP Explorers!

Ports and sectors interested in establishing new explorer posts in their communities should contact National Program Director Bob Clement.
