That is really interesting. A few years back I was involved in a financial education program sponsored by a local bank and the state of New Mexico called "The Stock Market Game". I think it may also be a national program, run on a state by state level. Look into it if you are interested. Basically, they allow students to work as a group and choose the stocks they want to invest in. They have a set amount of money to invest ($10,000), and they offer a software platform to track everything online. I work with Elementary age students and they loved it! Checking their stock's on a daily basis. Coming into class with the financial section of the newspaper. It was a site to see. I was surprised to say the least. I thought it would be fun and I believe financial education is very important, but their response far exceeded my expectations. The curricula is available both online and in the form of a CD-ROM. Both can be accessed from http://www.fdic.gov/consumers/consumer/moneysmart/mscbi/mscbi.html. It is available in English and Spanish. Definitely a helpful and well-done resource! I got involved with the FDIC and the FREE training they provide on Financial Literacy through local banks. As part of the FDIC mandate, banks must do come community relations and for many, it is providing this training. The last contact person I had was Valerie Williams who works for the FDIC out of NYC. Her contact number was 917-320-2621. You can also call the main number at 917-320-2500 and ask for their Division of Supervision and Consumer Protection. The name of the program was either Smart Money or Money Smart..not sure which and I took my CD of it home to have my teens go through it! As this is a national program, and it is free, it is a good source for adult literacy providers looking for financial literacy curriculum and speakers! Good luck! Judy Judith L.
