Spokane Sector’s Challenge Coin

(12/26/2007)
The Spokane Sector Challenge Coin depicts the image of the Grizzly Bear or Ursus arctos horribilis. Grizzlies have keen sense of smell, hearing and eyesight. They have massive claws and can attack swiftly. An adult male can weigh as much as 1200 lbs. Grizzlies mark their territory with deep paw-prints, which actively deters intruders. They are known as fierce defenders of their territories and dens, and will fight to the death to protect their young.

The history of Ursus arctos horribilis is a capsule history of the American West. No other single wild species—has figured quite so prominently in the literature of exploration and settlement beyond the hundredth meridian.

The Spokane Sector Coin can be purchased from Spokane Sector Morale, Welfare and Recreation by contacting David Moss at (509) 353-2747.
