Acting Commissioner Attends World Customs Organization Policy Commission Meeting
(12/05/2005)Acting Commissioner Deborah J. Spero represented U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at the 54th Session of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Policy Commission in Brussels, Belgium. Ms. Spero, accompanied by CBP Assistant Commissioners E. Keith Thomson, Office of International Affairs, and Michael Schmitz, Office of Regulations and Rulings, joined twenty-seven Members at the semi-annual meeting.The three-day meeting focused on a wide-array of customs issues, notably supply chain security, World Trade Organization trade facilitation negotiations, global enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights, and issues related to the Harmonized Tariff System. Also on the agenda were capacity building efforts designed to ensure the broad and expeditious implementation of the WCO Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade. |
