On March 8th, 2001, Education Secretary Rod Paige announced Beth Ann Bryan as his Senior Advisor. Ms. Bryan brings to the position high energy, dedication, and a wealth of experience in education policy and implementation.

Ms. Bryan served as Education Policy Director for then Texas Governor George W. Bush during the first year of his administration in 1995. Thereafter, she served as Advisor to the Texas Governor's Business Council and was a key leader in the Governor's Reading Initiative. During her service to the council, she also advised the council's members on accountability, charter schools and school choice, teacher preparation, and early childhood development. Ms. Bryan also served as Program Director for the First Lady's Family Literacy Initiative for Texas. As a Psychological Associate for 12 years in a private practice, she was involved with educational evaluation and therapy for children.

Ms. Bryan has also been involved in many civic and community activities, many of them related to education. She co-founded a group that sought out excellent candidates to run for the Houston School Board. Since its inception, she was active in the Texas Business and Education Coalition, serving as Regional Coordinator for the Houston area. From 1985 until 1989, she served as City Council Member and Mayor Pro Tem for the City of West University Place.

Ms. Bryan earned her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and English from Houston Baptist University in 1969. She holds a Masters in Education Guidance and Counseling from the University of Houston.
