Organized Village of Kake Receives $2 Million in Federal Funds

Anchorage, Alaska -- U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Benjamin Erulkar today presented a $2 million Economic Development Administration (EDA) investment to the Organized Village of Kake. The investment will help build a multi-purpose dock to serve commercial, fishing, and tourism needs. The investment is expected to create 100 jobs and generate $8 million in private investment.

“Communities that work together to create dynamic regional economies that foster innovation and competitiveness are the key to America’s continued success as the leader of the 21st century global economy,” said Erulkar. “This EDA investment will boost the region’s commercial fishing sector and help expand tourist businesses that serve the growing number of cruise ships that stop at Kake.”

EDA serves as a venture capital resource to meet the economic development needs of distressed communities throughout the United States. EDA’s mission is to lead the federal economic development agenda by promoting innovation and competitiveness, preparing American regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy.

Additional information on how EDA investments are helping distressed communities create a positive and sustainable economic future can be accessed at: http://www.eda.gov.
