Washington, DC - U.S. Customs and Border Protection today completed installations of the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) in Idaho. Both land border ports in Idaho are now using ACE.

ACE is the commercial trade processing system being developed by CBP to enhance border security and expedite legitimate trade. It provides CBP with the ability to collect electronic manifests for trucks and the trade community with additional capabilities to comply with the legal requirement for the advance electronic presentation of cargo information to CBP.

“The use of e-manifests will eventually be enforced at all U.S. land border ports,” said Lou Samenfink, executive director for the CBP Cargo Systems Program Office. “Truck carriers entering the U.S. through states where e-manifests are not yet required are encouraged to establish ACE truck carrier accounts as soon as possible. The faster carriers adopt e-manifests, the faster the border crossing process speeds up for everyone.”

The e-manifest capability is available at all ports where ACE is deployed. Currently, 67 ports in the states of Arizona, California, Idaho, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Texas, Vermont, and Washington are using ACE. CBP is working diligently to finish deployment at all 99 land border ports. Eventually, ACE will be rolled out for air, rail, and sea cargo processing.

To file an e-manifest, truck carriers can self file through the Web-based ACE secure data portal or via a CBP approved electronic data interchange. Carriers may also use third parties to file, which may require a fee.

More than 100,000 e-manifests have been filed since the first e-manifest was submitted in 2005.
