Memorial Services Scheduled for Border Patrol Agent Luis Aguilar

Yuma, Ariz. – Memorial services for Border Patrol agent Luis Aguilar are scheduled for Thursday, January 24 in Yuma, Ariz.

Agent Aguilar was killed in the line of duty on Saturday, January 19 after a suspected smuggler intentionally ran over him while he was deploying a controlled tire deflation device in an attempt to stop the vehicle from escaping into Mexico. 

Agent Aguilar leaves behind a wife and two children and will be sorely missed by the Yuma Sector and the Border Patrol.

The public memorial service will be held at the Yuma Civic Center.  Services are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Attendees are asked to arrive no later than 10 a.m. 

Due to the anticipated level of attendance by law enforcement personnel during the procession from the church service, Avenue B between 1st Street and 8th Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The procession will depart the church at approximately 9:30 a.m.  It will travel directly to the Yuma Civic Center.  The procession will travel south on Avenue B to 32nd Street, turn left on 32nd Street to Avenue A, where it will turn right to arrive at the memorial service.

Please be aware that while the procession is in transit all major intersections along the route between Avenue B and 8th Street, and Avenue A and 32nd Street will be closed from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, an account has been established with the National Bank of Arizona in the name of Luis Aguilar for donations.
