Although no official records exist of the Hebbronville Border Patrol Station’s inauguration, it is believed to have been one of the first stations that opened when the U.S. Border Patrol was established in 1924. In the early 1970s, the Hebbronville Border Patrol Station consisted of less than 15 Agents. The Laredo Sector realized the need for improvement and today, there are nearly 120 agents that patrol the area. In August 2003, the Hebbronville Border Patrol Station celebrated the grand opening of its newest location, which is located on 34 East Highway 359. The station is situated on 15 acres and is suitable for expansion. The Hebbronville Border Patrol Station is responsible for patrolling over 2,370 square miles of rugged South Texas terrain. Agents patrol 1,143 square miles of Jim Hogg County, 907 square miles of Duval County, and 320 square miles of Webb County. Agents utilize four-wheel drive vehicles whenever possible; however, they frequently patrol on foot for several miles when the terrain is too harsh. Area of Responsibility The station’s area of responsibility encompasses approximately 2,370 square miles of rugged South Texas terrain. Agents patrol 1,143 square miles of Jim Hogg County, 907 square miles of Duval County and 320 square miles of Webb County. The station is also responsible for manning three traffic checkpoints. |
