On the blue side it shows an oil derrick, road runner and a desert scene, all common to Southeast New Mexico and specifically Artesia where the Academy is located. The green side shows the official Academy logo of the "Horse and Rider", a Zia symbol which is on the New Mexico State Flag and the 3 letter abbreviations for the Academy Departments (Advanced Training Branch, Firearms, Driver Training, Spanish, Physical Techniques and Operations).
