U.S. Ambassador Frank Lavin Explains American Political System to Singaporean Students |
U.S. Ambassador Frank Lavin spoke about the American political system to 700 1st year students at Temasek Junior College (TJC), a school consistently ranked among the top five junior colleges in Singapore. The Ambassador compared the U.S. Constitution’s broad electoral framework with the political realities of the 2004 campaign, and showed some election TV ads to highlight his remarks. Student questions and follow-on discussions dealt with the U.S. and parliamentary electoral process, key campaign issues, and the wooing of undecided voters.
TJC participates in a special U.S. Embassy "American Connection" program. In addition to the Ambassador's program, TJC received in August a collection of 250 books on the U.S. and study guides to American schools for its library.
