Detroit – U.S. Consul General John Nay and Windsor Mayor Eddie Francis completed their NEXUS Card application process by receiving their cards today, Tuesday, May 15, at the NEXUS enrollment center located at the Ambassador Bridge.

NEXUS is a joint initiative of the Canada Border Services Agency and U.S. Customs and Border Protection designed to expedite the border clearance process for pre-approved, low-risk travelers into Canada and the United States. NEXUS members can cross the Canada-United States border quickly and easily at designated highway lanes at high volume border crossing locations, at NEXUS kiosks in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver International Airports (and soon to be more), and at marine reporting locations in the Great Lakes and Seattle, Washington regions. Approved applicants are issued a photo-identification/proximity card that is valid for five years. NEXUS members traveling by air, land or sea can enjoy expedited processing by presenting their NEXUS card at designated crossings.

“The Canadian Border Services Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection do an excellent job in managing this program, just one of the many examples of our close cooperation” said Consul General John Nay. “NEXUS is a perfect example of how we are moving forward to ensure an efficient, modern, and secure border that works for the 21st century.”

Expedited processing at the border is a big benefit for members. Further, it is anticipated that the NEXUS card will be an authorized alternative to a passport under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative increasing the value of membership.

For more information on NEXUS visit the CBSA web site; ( CBSA web site ) or the CBP web site. ( NEXUS Program )

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
