Calais, Maine - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Ferry Point border crossing in Calais, Maine, apprehended a 25-year-old man wanted in Spokane, Washington for first-degree robbery. While conducting inspections and routine checks of travelers entering the United States, CBP Officers encountered the young man, a resident of Machias, Maine. Further, CBP officers confirmed that the man had an outstanding warrant in Spokane. CBP held the man until officers from the Calais, Maine Police Department took him into custody for extradition to Washington.

"It is very important for CBP Officers to remain vigilant in their duties" said Area Port Director Keith Fleming. "CBP’s primary function is to prevent terrorists and weapons of terror from entering our country. As demonstrated in this instance, when we are doing our job by asking questions and conducting further checks, we can uncover a multitude of violations and apprehend individuals who have committed crimes and help bring them to justice."

The individual has been returned to Spokane, Washington to face charges of first-degree-robbery.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
