Border Patrol Agents Rescue Injured ATV Driver

Yuma, Ariz. – Yuma Sector agents Saturday assisted a man who injured himself while riding an all-terrain vehicle at the Imperial Sand Dunes.

At approximately 3 p.m., an emergency call was placed reporting that an ATV rider had fallen and injured himself while riding in an unknown location somewhere in the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreational Area. A Rural Metro Ambulance was dispatched but did not know the location of Taulbee. The Border Patrol ATV Unit was contacted and began searching the dunes north and south of Interstate 8, between Gordon’s Well and Gray’s Well. The agents then spotted an Arizona flag indicating the location of the injured man a quarter mile north of the interstate.

The ATV Unit plotted a course of travel so that another Border Patrol agent could take paramedics to the scene. The agent assisted in transporting Taulbee back to the awaiting ambulance.

“Border Patrol agents are not only faced with a variety of law enforcement situations,” said Chief Patrol Agent Paul Beeson, “but we are also presented with incidents in which we have to serve in a life-saving capacity. I would like to thank all involved for bringing this to a safe resolution.”

Taulbee was transported by ambulance to the Yuma Regional Medical Center for further medical treatment.
