Fabens, Texas – A U.S. Border Patrol agent found himself in the middle of a robbery and subsequent foot chase of a subject. The event unfolded after the man allegedly ran out of a local Petro Truck Stop in Horizon, Texas, with unpaid merchandise in hand.

Yesterday, a Border Patrol agent assigned to the Fabens, Texas Border Patrol Station was on his way home after completing his shift. The agent stopped at the Petro Truck Stop in Horizon, Texas and sat down to have breakfast. A short time later, the agent was approached by an employee informing him that the store had just been robbed and the subject was running out of the restaurant.

The agent quickly ran out of the restaurant and located the individual running from the scene. The agent identified himself and repeatedly ordered the subject to stop. The individual proceeded to drop the merchandise and began to fumble through his pockets as he was running. After a brief foot-chase, the agent was able to detain and handcuff the subject. Upon a search of subject, an open knife was located in the pocket that he was reaching into.

The subject was turned over to the Socorro Police Department and has been booked into the El Paso County Sheriff’s detention facility under the charge of theft.

These types of arrests are indicative of the level of work being done by U.S. Border Patrol agents in their efforts to increase the quality of life in the communities that they serve. Furthermore, this is a prime example of the great working relationships that exist between all local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
