JQS Road Closure Information

JQS Road Closure Update

Last updated July 11, 2008.

The JQS road is open as of July 11, 2008!

The closure is no longer in place.

Why was the JQS Road closed?

The JQS Road, which heads to the top of the Roan Plateau from Rifle, was closed June 4, 2008 due to major road damage from spring run-off. Numerous debris flows, rock slides and washouts have made the road impassable to vehicles. Additional flows and washouts are anticipated.

Where was the closure?

The JQS is closed about four miles west of Colorado Highway 13 through to the top of the plateau where JQS intersects with the Rim Road.

When will it be reopened?

July 11, 2008.

How can I get to the top of the Roan Plateau?

You can still get to the top of the Roan by taking the Cow Creek Road, which is accessed from Rio Blanco County Road 5 out of Rio Blanco. After July 11th, you can access the JQS road as well to reach the top of the Roan Plateau.
