CBP Explorers Attend Leadership Academies
(09/19/2007)During the months of July and August, 2007 Explorers from several CBP Explorer Posts attended Leadership Academies that are given throughout the country. The FBI and DEA each host one-week academies that take place in the Washington, D. C. area and in Quantico, Va. Other academies are hosted by different agencies and police departments in areas such as San Diego, CA, Miami, FL, and New York City. These academies are two to three weeks long during which the Explorers learn a wide array of law enforcement topics as well as military drill and firearms training. Explorers may also become certified in CPR/First Aid.Physical Fitness is a major component of the academies. All Explorers are required to take part in physical activities including miles of running, 100s of push-ups, canoeing, rappelling, rock climbing, and a challenging obstacle course.Upon graduation from a Leadership Academy, Explorers apply what they learned to the challenges that occur in their daily lives. They go forth with an understanding of what citizenship really means and a sense of pride in their accomplishments.CBP salutes these Explorers for a job well done. |
