Calexico CBP Officers Seize Cache Of Marijuana In Panel Van

contacts for this news releaseCALEXICO – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a San Diego area man Sunday evening after they found 1,000 pounds of marijuana hidden in his vehicle when he entered the downtown Calexico border station.Ian Davis, 26, a U.S. citizen residing in Chula Vista, was arrested at about 9:30 p.m. after CBP officers found 164 wrapped packages of marijuana hidden in a rear wall non-factory compartment of a 1998 GMC panel van during an intensive secondary inspection. The vehicle and its driver were referred to the secondary inspection lot by an alert primary booth CBP officer. During the secondary inspection, a narcotics detector dog alerted to cargo storage area of the vehicle. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents subsequently transported Davis to the Imperial County jail to await arraignment on federal drug smuggling charges. The vehicle and drugs were seized by CBP. The incident remains under investigation. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control, and protection of our Nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
