contacts for this news releaseBoundary, Wash. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection is announcing the reopening of the Boundary port of entry in Washington State on Monday, June 9, 2008 at 9 a.m. for motorists traveling into the United States from British Columbia.The temporary port closure was due to restoration work on Canada’s Waneta Bridge, Highway 22A southeast of Trail, British Columbia which crosses over the Pend Oreille River just north of the border. Originally built in 1893 as a railway bridge it recently received structural improvements enabling it to continue service as the oldest operational highway bridge in British Columbia.The reopened Boundary port of entry hours of operations will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
