CBP Explorers in 'Land of the Midnight Sun'

(03/17/2008)
Bob Clement ( National CBP Explorer Director) and Post Advisors Tom Carr, Mike Medo and the Explorers of Post 3126 with one of the dog sled teams.
Go north to Alaska and you will find CBP Law Enforcement Explorer Post 3126 located in Anchorage. The newly chartered Explorer Post has approximately 15 members who are finding out that being an Explorer is an interesting and exciting adventure. On March 1st, the Explorers augmented the Anchorage Police Department in providing security to an international sporting event. The Explorers and advisors had the opportunity to provide crowd control and traffic check points at the start of the 2008 Iditarod in downtown Anchorage. The Iditarod is "The Last Great Race on Earth." It consists of approximately 95 dog sled teams racing over 1,050 miles of the roughest terrain and worse weather Alaska has to offer. The temperature will sometimes drop to -70 degrees with blizzard conditions. The first musher and dog team will arrive at the finish in Nome about 10 days after the start.

The Iditarod committee was extremely impressed with the professionalism that the CBP Explorers displayed and have requested that they be part of the security team for next years event. Alaska U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski also met with some of the Explorers and commented on what a fine group of young men and women are in the program, she also congratulated Port Director Lance Robinson and Assistant Port Director Roy Armstrong for starting the post in Anchorage.

Senator Murkowski enjoys Reindeer Hot Dogs with some of the Explorers.
