spinnerei, Leipzig
March 14, 2008. During the Book Fair, Consulate General Leipzig helped launch an experimental joint venture of readings featuring eight American authors (Christopher Edgar, Nicholas Kulish, Dirk Wittenborn, Adam Davies, Elif Batuman, Peter Behrens, Marco Roth and Christian Hawkey) who teamed up with German-language writers Ulrike Almut Sandig, Thomas Pletzinger, Jo Lendle, Raphael Urweider, Ron Winkler, Jan Costin Wagner, Paul Brodowsky and Uljana Wolf. Going by the name Krautgarden, the readings took place in several galleries at Leipzig's Alte Baumwollspinnerei, an old industrial cotton mill complex famous for its ties to the new Leipzig School of Art. The evening concluded with a performance by PeterLicht (as one word!), poet, musician, and artist who won the 3sat TV-prize and the readers’ choice award at the Austrian Ingeborg-Bachmann-Competition.
