Yuma, Ariz. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents from the Yuma sector arrested a Mexican man illegally crossing the border Tuesday who had been arrested 26 times in Arizona for crimes such as driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, assault, forgery, shoplifting, burglary, vehicle theft, and criminal trespassing.

About 7 p.m. Border Patrol agents noticed evidence that a single individual had crossed the Colorado River around County 9th Street. Agents began tracking the individual east from the river area. After a few hours, agents caught up with the individual, placed him into custody, and transported him to the Yuma Station for further processing.

Records checks revealed that the man, a 36-year-old Mexican citizen, had been arrested 26 times throughout the state of Arizona for crimes such as DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, assault, forgery, shoplifting, burglary, vehicle theft, and criminal trespassing since 1996. Further checks revealed that the subject has been deported nine times by immigration officials. He has spent about four years in jail for his previous crimes.

The man was processed and is being presented for prosecution for re-entry after deportation, illegal entry, and reinstatement of the deportation.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of the nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
