San Ysidro, Calif. – A 49-year-old Mexican man wanted for murder in the Los Angeles area was apprehended Friday night as he entered the United State on foot through the San Ysidro port of entry, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials announced today.

Gregorio Vidaca Gonzalez was detained by CBP officers at about 9 p.m. on November 21 after he presented a border crossing card and requested an I-94 permit to travel beyond the border area. CBP officers queried various law enforcement databases and developed information that Vidaca was wanted on a no-bail felony warrant for murder by the Norwalk sheriff’s department.

Vidaca was taken into custody and later transported to the San Diego county jail to await extradition.

Vidaca was among 27 wanted fugitives apprehended at the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa passenger ports of entry during the past week. The felony warrants included assault, escape, forgery, burglary, larceny, failure to appear and parole violations. Over 80 percent of the fugitives were determined to be U.S. citizens.

CBP officers at the two border stations also arrested seven previously deported criminal aliens from Mexico attempting to illegally enter the U.S. during the week.

Each previously had been ordered by an immigration judge to be deported. All had multiple felony convictions for various offenses, including sexual assault, sexual battery, sex with a minor, robbery, narcotics possession, burglary and illegal entry into the U.S.

The seven are being detained pending prosecution in federal court.

CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
