CBP Border Patrol Agents Intercept Drug Cache Agents Seize 141 Pounds of Cocaine and 119 Pounds of Marijuana

contacts for this news releaseDonna, TX - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Border Patrol Agents, for the second day in a row, make significant drug seizures in the Donna, Texas area. This latest find yielded 141 pounds of cocaine and 119 pounds of marijuana.At approximately 7:00 am, agents from the Weslaco Border Patrol Station patrolling the Rio Grande River, south of Donna, Texas, observed a suspicious vehicle leaving the river area at a high rate of speed. Responding agents also observed a 1995 Oldsmobile parked near the river. A search of the abandoned vehicle resulted in the discovery of 57 brick-like packages testing positive for cocaine totaling 141 pounds and valued at $4,540,800. Agents expanded their search and recovered an additional 119 pounds of marijuana stashed along the riverbank wrapped in burlap sacks. The total value of the drug seizure was $4,636,800.00. No arrests were made in connection to this seizure and the narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration in McAllen, Texas.These latest incidents bring the current narcotics seized in the Rio Grande Sector to a total of 206,506 pounds of marijuana and 1,403 pounds of cocaine with a combined value of $110,567,281.00. U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control, and protection of our Nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry.
