Abstract	This article describes a Global Positioning System (GPS)-based electronic road pricing system which will be deployed in Switzerland in preparation for the implementation of the Heavy Vehicle Fee (HVF). The new system will also incorporate automatic vehicle location (AVL) technology . The tolls for the HVF will be calculated according to road use data which includes distance traveled, weight, and a pollution value.
