CBP officers discover four Mexican migrants, including one minor, hidden within a metal tank.

A CBP officer conducting anti-terrorism inspections opened the rear doors of the white 1987 Dodge van at about 11:30 p.m. and noticed a collection of hoses, buckets, carpet cleaning materials and a large metal tank. Peering inside one of the holes in the tank, the officer saw what appeared to be blue cloth and some human fingers.

The vehicle and its driver were escorted into the secondary inspection lot for a thorough examination. CBP officers subsequently found two adult males, an adult female and a 17-year old female hidden inside the large metal tank. All four were removed from the vehicle and later identified as undocumented citizens of Mexico.

The driver, Julian Antonio Suarez, of Ensenada, Baja, Mexico, was arrested for the alleged smuggling attempt and transported to the Imperial County jail. The passengers were paroled into U.S. custody as material witnesses during prosecution of the case.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control, and protection of our Nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
