USDA APPOINTS RANDALL HUNT TO HEAD RURAL DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS IN OHIO

     WASHINGTON, June 1, 2001--The U.S. Department of Agriculture today appointed Randall C. Hunt as the Ohio State Director for USDA Rural Development.

     Hunt, from Worthington, Ohio, is the Executive Director of the Ohio Rural Development Partnership for the Ohio Department of Agriculture. Prior to this position, Hunt was the Director of the Governor's Office of Appalachia for the Ohio Department of Development. He also has served as the Director of Planning for the Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission. Throughout his career, Hunt has been devoted to economic and community development endeavors and initiatives in Ohio's rural and Appalachian Region.

     Hunt is active in his local community and has served on the Board of Directors for the Ohio Development Association. He is a Founding Trustee of the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, and he is a member of the National Association of Development Organizations. Hunt is a graduate of Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in architecture.

     USDA Rural Development serves as the lead federal entity for rural development needs, and administers program assistance through three agencies: Rural Housing Service, Rural Business-Cooperative Service, and Rural Utilities Service.
