Watershed Boundary Dataset

The Pacific Northwest Hydrography Framework (PNWHF) version of the Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) provides complete coverage of hydrologic unit boundaries levels 1 (the region level) through 6 (the subwatershed level) for the states of Oregon and Washington. It also includes additional attribution and limited delineations of hydrologic units at the 7th and 8th level. The finer delineations, to the 7th and 8th level, do not represent a fully coordinated effort and significant changes may be needed in the future when federal standards for the delineation at of these boundaries are formalized.

This dataset, as delineated to the 6th level, exactly matches the content of the WBD as hosted in the national repository at the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and as provided on their Geospatial Data Gateway: http://datagateway.nrcs.usda.gov. The enhanced PNWHF version of the dataset can be downloaded from the PNWHF links provided below.

Datasets Available for Download

An Oregon, Washington, and combined Oregon/Washington dataset are provided for download. Each dataset contains boundaries for all subbasins that fall within or intersect the state boundaries.

Editing the Hydrologic Unit Boundaries

A strategy is currently being developed that will govern WBD stewardship and maintenance activities. All updates to the WBD will be coordinated by the PNWHF WBD Stewards. Please contact the WBD Stewards for Oregon or Washington to report errors or other needed data improvements.

Note that the USGS is integrating the WBD and NHD into a single geodatabase data model. This integration project should be completed by the end of 2009. Stewardship of these two datasets will be more closely aligned when USGS completes this integration project.
