Pigmentation

Chlorophyll

dp - Blue-green pods. Darkens gp color.

gp - Pods yellow. New growth, peduncles and sepals often yellowish so character may be discerned before pods develop.

le - Internodes short, with zigzag pattern. Pleiotropic effects: flowering time slightly later: shorter roots; leaf and pod colors darker.

o - Foliage and pods yellowish green. With I, cotyledons very light yellow. Young pods with green stripe along upper and lower suture.

orp - Orange pods.

pa - Foliage, pods and immature seeds medium green color (freezer type). Pa lighter green (canner type). See also vim.

py - Precocious yellowing. Foliage color normal until near maturity. Then foliage and pods rapidly turn yellow. Stem base pale.

vim - Foliage and pod color medium dark green; Vim medium color. See also pa.

wex - All parts of plant light blue grey. Plants weak and unproductive. Pollen grains small and frequently in tetrads. Quasi-epistatic to wax genes.

Anthocyanin

a - Absence of anthocyanin production.

Pu - Pods purple with Pur. Requires A for expression. Pu Pur A and am or b or gp conditions red pods.

Pur - Purple pods with Pu

rup - Anthocyanin spots on pods with rups. Probable pleiotropic effects on inflorescence and stem.

rups - Anthocyanin spots on pods with rup.

Size/Shape/Wall Character

bt - Bt pod apex blunt - bt pod apex pointed.

cp-1 - Pods concavely curved. See also cp-2

cp-2 - Pods concavely curved. See also cp-1

cri - Leaves, stipules, flowers and pods crinkled with tissue foldings. Peduncles and petioles shortened. Leaflets appear narrow, with nearly parallel sides.

n - Pod walls very thick and fleshy. Often scimitar shaped pod. Included in sugar snap cultivars.

p - Schlerenchymatous membrane of inner pod wall mostly absent. Used with gene v for edible podded peas. P V conditions normal parchmented pod. p V pods have strips of schlerenchyme. P v pods inner membrane is reduced to patches of schlerenchyma. p v pods are entirely without parchment and are used as snow peas. When the gene n is included, pods are used as sugar snaps.

te - Pod width reduced by 25%

teu - Pods narrow. Effect not as great as te

twp - Immature pods twisted. Mature pod often scarred and callused.

v - Reduced parchment - see p for details.
