Commander is the prosecutor in summary court-martial cases & consequently inter-ested in my steno qualifications. In fact he said he's been looking for fellows who can write testimony & he implied if I do well I may be able to get into ships-company--that is, stationed here--as a reporter. (Incidentally, I've already written to Bklyn. Navy Yard.) [sic]
I didn't do much all day but sit in his office--took one note in shorthand and typed a few things for his court martial cases--everything has to be exact, according to form, and letter perfect--no erasures or struck over letters allowed. I missed drilling today & probably will avoid other details like that except "musts"--about which I'll write as we come to them.
