Abstract: This vector digital dataset contains a list of fifty-four records for shelters located in and around the City of Newark. The data is not comprehensive and does not include all shelters located within the City of Newark. This dataset includes shelter location and contact information for Newark-provided homeless shelters, Office of Emergency Management list of shelters, shelters/hotels, shelters with emergency generators, and private welfare homeless shelters. This dataset is to be included on the State of New Jersey Emergency Preparedness Information Network (EPINet) for the purpose of developing and implementing a statewide geographic information clearinghouse and network that will provide a framework and mechanism for storing, cataloging, and disseminating spatial data.
Purpose: The purpose of this dataset is to provide spatial locations of all selected shelters in and around the City of Newark. This list is not mean to be a comprehenshive, all-inclusive list. The data should be used with caution, however, the City of Newark does have plans to make updates and revisions as necessary.
