  • Nationally, the number of males arrested in 2005 remained virtually unchanged from the 2004 figure. The number of females arrested was up 0.7 percent in the 2-year period.
  • The number of juveniles (persons under age 18) arrested declined in 2005 compared with the previous year's number. The number of males under age 18 arrested was down 2.7 percent, and the number of females in this age group arrested declined 3.8 percent.
  • In the 2-year period, the number of males arrested for violent crimes increased 1.6 percent, and the number of females arrested for these crimes was up 2.0 percent.
  • For murder, the number of juveniles and adults of both genders arrested increased in the 2-year period. The increase in the number of arrests was greatest for juveniles: up 23.7 percent for juvenile females, and up 19.5 percent for juvenile males.
  • The number of persons arrested of both genders, juvenile and adult, for property crimes declined in the 2-year period.
  • For drug abuse violations, the number of males arrested increased 3.8 percent from 2004 to 2005, and the number of females arrested rose 5.4 percent. However, in the same time period, the number of juveniles arrested for these crimes declined, down 1.4 percent for males under age 18 and 4.2 percent for females under age 18.
