Research Project: Evaluation of Crop Yield Variability Across Crop Production Fields in Central Iowa

Location: Soil and Water Quality Research

Project Number: 3625-12130-005-08
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 26, 2008
End Date: Mar 30, 2010

Objective:
The overall objective of this cooperative research project is to conduct research on yield and grain variation as a function of soil properties, crop management, and nutrient rates and cycling, and to develop relations among yield and grain quality variation across multiple fields.

Approach:
Observations will be collected from a production field to obtain data on yield variation. Soil maps will be developed to determine spatial variation in soil properties, nutrient cycling, and soil management relative to crop yield. Data will be analyzed to determine if spatial relationships are unique or variable. Within one field, extensive observations will be made on the relationships between yield, crop growth, and nutrient rate.
