A New Blanket of White 

An upper level trough of low pressure swung across Nebraska and Kansas on February 12th and 13th, 2007.  This weather system produced widespread snow across south central Nebraska and north central Kansas. The snowfall amounts from reporting locations, along with water equivalent from the snowfall are reported, along with snow depths in the tables below.

The image below depicts a visible satellite image of the recent snow cover across Nebraska and Kansas. The surface observations are overlaid in yellow showing the cold surface temperatures and northerly winds in place at 1100 AM CST on February 13th. The different National Weather Service county warning areas are encased within the bold red lines.

 
 
The image below depicts the 24 hour snowfall total ending at 7 AM on February 13th, across Nebraska and northern Kansas.  This snowfall image is generated by the National Weather Service in Hastings.
  
 


The heaviest snowfall occurred along and south of a line from Cambridge to Hubbell to Hebron, Nebraska - where total snowfall accumulations ranged from 3 to 7 inches. Along and north of Interstate 80 from Lexington to York - snowfall amounts generally ranged from 1 to 4 inches.

The images below depict snowfall that was reported to the Nebraska Rainfall Assessment and Information Network - NeRain, for Nuckolls and Webster counties respectively.


 

 
 
 
The final image below depicts a visible satellite image snapped by a GOES weather satellite at 1030 AM on February 13th over the western United States.  A wide swath of snow extended over the northern and central Plains states, into eastern Colorado.
