In 2007, law enforcement agencies in the Nation’s suburban areas provided information on the race of 4,180,882 persons arrested in their jurisdictions. More than three-fourths (75.4 percent) of those arrestees were white, while 23.1 percent were black, and the remainder were of other races.
More than two-thirds of individuals arrested for violent crime and property crime, 66.9 percent and 71.4 percent respectively, were white.
Whites were most often arrested in suburban areas for driving under the influence (442,101) and drug abuse violations (363,715).
Blacks were most frequently arrested for drug abuse violations (122,828) and other (simple) assaults (94,869).
Among juveniles (persons under age 18) arrested, 72.4 percent were white.
Whites under age 18 also accounted for 54.8 percent of the juveniles arrested for violent crime and 67.5 percent of the juveniles arrested for property crime.
