Ten-Day Workshop Strengthens English Teaching in West Bank Public Schools

In support of a major initiative by the Palestinian Ministry of Education to improve the skills of English teachers in public schools, the Consulate arranged for specialized training for 50 new English language elementary school teachers in Ramallah by English language specialist Kathleen Saville. Ms. Saville, an English professor at American University in Cairo, focused on effective lesson planning and the use of student-centered techniques across the four skill areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The program’s topics and structure were designed to meet specific needs identified by the Ministry of Education during its recent re-assessment of their English Language curriculum and teaching methodologies. The February program was funded by the U.S. State Department and is the first of two training sessions planned by the Consulate.
