Research Project: An Integrated Approach for Developing Scab Resistant Barley Project Number: 0500-00053-001-43
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 05, 2004
End Date: May 04, 2009

Objective:
Develop six-rowed malting barley cultivars resistant to Fusarium head blight (FHB) that are acceptable to producers in North Dakota and adjacent states, and acceptable to those who use and process barley and ultimately develop malting barley cultivars resistant to FHB.

Approach:
Use double-haploid breeding, off-season FHB screening nurseries in China, off-season nurseries for seed increase in New Zealand and Arizona and the use of molecular marker assisted selection to accelerate development of scab resistant varieties of barley. FY06 Titles: 1. Multi-state Barley Winter Nursery - FY06 (05/06) 2. Evaluation of Barley for FHB Resistance in China 3.
