The first leg of the NZA SROF'05 expedition will depart from Pago Pago, American Samoa. The RV Ka'imikai-o-Kanaloa will sail southwest to the northern segment of the Kermadec Arc. The first submersible dive target is Monowai submarine volcano, followed by Macauley and Volcano W. Giggenbach (NW of Macauley) will be explored with a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). After the last dive at Volcano W, the ship will proceed to New Zealand to swap out scientific crew members before sailing to the southern segment of the Kermadec Arc for more submersible dives. Bathymetry data sets for this fly through include low-resolution satellite altimetry data from Sandwell and Smith (bottom layer, and high-resolution EM300 bathymetry data in the area of the dive sites (top layer). The EM300 data are provided courtesy of New Zealand National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA). Bathymetry data are vertically exaggerated 3 times.
