Members of the U.S. Embassy staff donate Christmas gifts to children in Balti

Pre-Christmas joy was spread this holiday season at the “Drum spre Casa” Center in Balti by LTC Craig Mix, Bilateral Affairs Office Chief of the U.S. Embassy, SGT Adrian Daniels of the US Embassy Marine Security Detachment, Quality School International teachers Mary Mix and Heidi Goveia and children from the U.S. Embassy community. The “Drum spre Casa” Center in Balti serves as a temporary shelter for abandoned children, orphans and domestic violence and human traffic victims and currently hosts 34 residents. The effort to collect money and donations was coordinated by the Bilateral Affairs Office (BAO) of the US Embassy, and included contributions from the Embassy staff and the American community in Moldova, the US Embassy Marine Security Detachment Annual Toys for Tots Program, the Little Samaritan Mission through its “Face of a Child” Project, Rotary Club Chisinau Centru.  For the second year in a row the BAO and the U.S. Embassy community has joined forces with the Marine Toys for Tots Annual drive and the donations included computers, toys, winter coats, donated clothes, school supplies, etc. “When we put the word out through the Community Liaison Office (CLO) at the Embassy about the needs of the shelter, the response from Embassy employees, USAID and the Little Samaritan Mission was fantastic,” said LTC Craig Mix.
