Topical Workshop on the Nucleus-Nucleus Collision Research Program
at the Future Facility at GSI

May 13 - 16, 2002
GSI Darmstadt

2. Circular
February 18, 2002

Dear Colleagues,

in the first circular we have announced a workshop on "Compressed Baryonic
Matter" which will take place at GSI Darmstadt in May, 13.-16. 2002. The
study of superdense baryonic matter - as it is produced in heavy-ion
collisions at beam energies of up to 30 GeV/nucleon - will be a major field
of research at the proposed international accelerator facility for beams of
ions and antiprotons at GSI.

The workshop is intended to review our current knowledge on superdense
baryonic matter and to discuss perspectives for an experimental program to
explore the high baryon density region of the QCD phase diagram. The
workshop covers the following topics:

        1. QCD at high baryon densities, in-medium properties of
hadrons, neutron stars, heavy-ion collision dynamics, experimental
observables etc.
        2. experimental results obtained in heavy-ion collisions at AGS
and SPS
        3. modern detector technologies such as radiation hard Silicon
Pixel Detectors, Ring Imaging Cherenkov Detectors, Transition Radiation
Detectors and Resistive Plate Chamber arrays

The morning session on May 16 is devoted to a discussion of necessary steps
towards the realization of a dedicated experiment at the future accelerator
facility.

In response to the first circular already quite a number of contributions
were submitted. Not all of them can be selected for oral presentation in the
plenary sessions. In order to allow for an active participation of as many
of you as possible we offer a poster session starting with "poster
announcements": each person has a time slot of 3 min to advertise his poster
with one transparency.

In case you want to make a contribution please send me an email with the
title and a short abstract.

Please find further information on the workshop on our website
http://www.gsi.de/cbm2002/.
The scientific program will be displayed there in the near future. Please
feel free to contact me by email in case of questions.

With best regards, Peter Senger
                                                                for the
organizing committee
