Carter G. Woodson and the Origins of Multiculturalism: The Legacy at NOAA

Michael H. Cottman is a prize-winning journalist and avid scuba diver. He participated in an underwater expedition to survey the Henrietta Marie, a sunken wreck of a slave ship off the coast of Florida.Cottman’s book, Wreck of the Henrietta Marie: An African American's Spiritual Journey to Uncover a Sunken Slave Ship's Past, is a fascinating look at one man's quest to reconstruct the journey of a British slave ship. He also is a senior political correspondent for REACH Media/Radio One, the nation’s largest black-owned media company. A sampling of ethnic foods will follow the presentation.

The National Marine Fisheries Service places their title and plaque on the line against the National Weather Service, National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service, National Ocean Service, and the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research. Learning history was never so much fun.

Dr. Michael Eric Dyson is the author of 15 books, a renowned scholar, an ordained Baptist minister, and public intellectual. His innovative scholarship, combining cultural criticism and biography, focuses on race, religion, popular culture, and contemporary issues in the African American community. He is a professor at Georgetown University, where he teaches theology, English, and African American studies.
