Summary
A1 - Ozondesonde and CLASS Data The Southern Oxidants Study (SOS) conducted a major field research campaign in Nashville/Middle Tennessee area in June and July 1994 and 1995. The goal of this study was to improve scientific understanding of the processes that control the production and distribution of ozone in the troposphere. The ... Georgia Institute of Technology (GIT) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) combined to launch a series of ozondesondes and CLASS systems from the New Hendersonville Level III (GIT) monitoring station and the Old Hickory weather stations (NOAA). The New Hendersonville site is approximately 20 km NNE of the Nashville, TN urban center and the Old Hickory site is about 23 km NE of Nashville. The CLASS system measured temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure, wind speed and wind direction. The GIT sondes measured ozone, temperature, relative humidity, and barometric pressure. The NOAA sondes measured ozone, temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure, wind speed, and wind direction. The study was conducted from June 26 1995 through July 23, 1995. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) was the coordinator for the 1995 Southern Oxidants Study Nashville/Middle Tennessee Ozone Study.
