Aldo M; International Society of Technology Assessment in Health Care. Meeting.

Annu Meet Int Soc Technol Assess Health Care Int Soc Technol Assess Health Care Meet. 1997; 13: 157.

Geriatric Hospital, Medical Directorate, LHU 16 Padova, Italy.

Health promotion constitutes an objective of the health care system and an opportunity for the health structures. Hospitals could play an important role because of its concentration of experience, its considerable social prestige, its network of community health and social services, its influence in the economic market, and because it is an important source of environmental pollution. Since 1995, the Geriatric Hospital of Padova has been part of the Veneto Region Health Promoting Hospitals (HPH) which is part of the W.H.O. European Network of the HPH. An HPH Committee has been established which determines priorities of intervention and coordinates several working groups. The initiatives of the project are classifiable as follows: 1) Activities oriented towards the patients: a) control of hospital infections; b) quality of hospital care; c) health care technology assessment; d) hygienic control of food. 2) Activities oriented towards staff: a) safety and preventive medicine program; b) continuing education. 3) Activities oriented towards the community: a) healthy life styles; b) cooperation with primary health care; c) waiting list rationalization; d) ethical initiatives. A progress report of the project will be presented.
