MAJOR DUTIES: These duties are written at the full performance level. The incumbent is responsible for producing high quality ice analyses, ice forecasts (1-30 days), outlooks (90 days) and climatological summaries in paper, digital, geospatial or message format on a hemispheric, regional or tactical scale. The incumbent will interpret radar, visible, infrared, passive microwave and other meteorological and oceanographic data in order to produce ice products. The incumbent will use both Microsoft NT and Sun Solaris workstations with Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) Image, Analyst Extension, Erdas IMAGINE, SeaSpace TERASCAN and the Naval Satellite Information Processing system (NSIPS) satellite interpretation software and ESRI geographic Information Systems (GIS) software to create and disseminate products. The meteorological technician will produce and perform training lectures concerning ice, oceanographic and meteorological topics in support of the ice analysis and forecast effort. The incumbent will produce and archive case studies which support the training effort and which describe singular events in the ice coverage. The incumbent will provide ship or staff briefings including pre-deployment briefings to units bound for Arctic or Antarctic seas.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

GS-7

All applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level OR one full year of graduate education directly related i.e. meteorology

All applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level.

GS-9

All applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 grade level OR

two full years of graduate education or a master’s degree directly related i.e. meteorology or geography

GS-10

All applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level.

GS-11

All applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 grade level.
