Mama A, Kateswara S, Kashamuka M; International Conference on AIDS.

Int Conf AIDS. 1996 Jul 7-12; 11: 258 (abstract no. Th.A.4026).

Procjet SIDA/HMY, Belgium.

Objective: To determine, after 5 years of slackening, if ELISAs used in most of medical laboratories in Kinshasa are still reliable according to their specificity and sensitivity. This study attempts to determine the efficiency of 4 ELISAs. Methodology: 600 human sera were collected from blood bank at Mama Yemo hospital, Projet SIDA and pregnant women of different reference sites of B.C.C. These samples were tested by the following ELISA tests: Vironostika, Genelavia, Enzygnost, and MLI-VIH1/2, Sensitivity, specificity, PPV and NPV were calculated using the reference test which is the Western blot. Results: (table: see text) Conclusion: All the 4 ELISAs tested gave reliable results. The combination of Enzygnost and MLI-VIH1/2 seems to be the best. All false negative results by Vironstika are found in frozen sera during more than one year.
