Run II CDF/D0/CD Joint Computing Project Meeting of November 25, 1997

Mark Fischler gave a report on the status of software releases from the ZOOM project. ZOOM will receive a note from the Run 2 Steering Committee by next Monday detailing the next platforms which ZOOM software is to be supported for.

John Marrafino is writing up a proposal in response to a request from CDF to ZOOM to support a timer utility package.

Don Petravick gave a report on the status of the RIP project.

• Redwood tape drive testing finished
• Ampex tape drive ordered
• No explicit Run II related rate studies being on HPSS - merely tracking bugs and testing usability in general. Going down problem lists and gradually advancing usability and up-time.
• Mass storage system underwent upgrades of both hardware and software
• Believe we are the only people running a kernel load, although Sandia are in production with HPSS, built on SP2 system architecture and currently reported to be getting about 5 MB/sec throughput (final design goal is 100MB/sec).
• Working with the HPSS collaboration. Investigating architecture and the use of static timeouts

Lee Lueking showed a recent diagram from the SAM group - see SAM pages Flows and Controls document detailing aggregate data flows for a certain 'Season' in the life of a Run II experiment. This provoked discussion on various aspects of data access, RIP, tape drives.

Joel Butler led a blow-by-blow discussion of the draft charges to two soon-to-be-formed working groups focussed on Physics Analysis Software.(See draft on main page)
